Hand Painted Kitchen in Red Earth colour.
Getting Commissioned
I was asked to turn this standard kitchen into a lovely hand painted kitchen by an existing client for his parents, just to give it some extra life and enjoyment for his parents. To be truthful, it was a great move as there was nothing wrong with the kitchen at all.
It was a nice local job in Sittingbourne, Kent.
It’s all in the preparation
The units were cleaned down with a degreaser and allowed to dry. Once dry, they were cleaned further with a thorough wipe down of methylated spirits.
Once everything was ready after all the clean down and light abrading, a first coat of adhesion primer was applied and allowed to dry.
The next adhesion primer was mixed in a colour closest to the finishing colour.
All abrading took place with the usual mechanical sanding where practical (the majority of dust residue is taken away into the extraction unit).
Second stage filling carried out at this point, rubbed down and spot primed.
The final stages
After this, two further coats of the finishing paint is applied. This particular kitchen received (the well known paint brand in the hand painted kitchen scene) Tikkurila Helmi 10. This is a very hardwearing paint suitable for kitchens and furniture alike.
As you can see from the photos below, this kitchen received a lovingly applied colour from the Farrow & Ball colour range called Red Earth.
It was matched by Tikkurila’s colour mixing specialists. It is a very precise match too, as are all their matches.
Once the doors and drawer fronts were dry, they were refitted and new handles were installed.
The handles really made the units pop!
Let me know in the comments section below whether you like the colour or not. Some will and some won’t!
