Painting Friendship House Function Hall – Minster
Painting a Function Hall in Minster on the Isle of Sheppey.
This was my biggest project last year – 2011. I was commissioned to paint this function hall by The Friendship House Trust from the Isle of Sheppey. They were looking for a function hall painter and decorator in Kent with experience in this type of project.
The Trust was awarded a grant from WREN, a non-profit making Environmental Body (EB), who are registered to fund projects which are eligible under the Landfill Communities Fund.
I was pleased to win this project as it turned out I was the most expensive quote, but I was awarded the job due to “my detailed specification and product knowledge.”
The whole project went along smoothly for the most part. A local builder I know was given the contract to fit the new fire doors, skirting and stage wings which had to be completed in good time with no hiccups.
The fire alarm chaps however had a small error in judgement whilst running Pyro cable within the ceiling void above the Dining Area. I had raked out all the cracks to the ceiling area and cleaned out. Thistle Fibatape had been applied to bridge the cracks and filled twice with Gyproc Easifill then rubbed smooth.
I was due to go in the following day to emulsion the ceiling to a finish when I was faced with a large hole where one of the chaps decided to fall through up to his knees. I was relieved he wasn’t hurt.
With all the wall filling that went on to make the walls look nice, I was really pleased that I had purchased my Mirka Ceros dustless sanding system from a supplier on Painters Pit Stop professional decorators forum. The Abranet (net) sanding sheets make a fantastic job of taking down the area being sanded to a smooth finish. The Ceros, which is a fantastic piece of kit not only saved time on clean up due to an absolute minimal amount of dust generated, but it saved on my shoulders too.
It was bloomin’ cold at times working there as it was leading up to Christmas. I had to complete before 4th January 2012, ready for when the floor layers were coming in.
Oh! I almost forgot, they were the ones who created another hiccup. They managed to get bitumen paint spattered onto some wall areas – I was not a happy bunny.
This had to be repainted before the official opening attended by a few local MP’s (one, who couldn’t be bothered to stay more than half an hour), the local Police, Local Hospital Radio and some of the different club organisers who use the function hall.
This is a great little function hall located in Love Lane, Minster, on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. ME12 2LP. It has adequate toilet facilities, kitchen area, main function hall and a separate dining area. Parking is available too.
